Gui Jie(Ghost Street)

Gui Jie, literally means "Ghost Street", it is one of the most unique streets providing more than 150 shops, including 100 restaurants, where behind Beijing's Inner Dongzhimen Street, stretches 1,442 m from Dongzhimen cloverleaf junction in the east, to Jiaodaokou East Street in the west.

This unique catering street is famous for varieties of restaurants served for special flavor, a unique style, low price. It’s also popular because of it providing 24hours’ service, maybe that’s why it named Ghost Street. It’s name was changed as Dong Zhi Men Nei Catering Street in 2000.

Hundreds of restaurants along the street decorate with red lanterns, and distinctive traditional, small or medium Chinese courtyards. Dong Xing Lou, Hua Jia Yi Yuan ,Tong Li Yuan ,Ming Xuan Ju, Fu Xuan Ju, Da Cai Lou, Yun Fu, Jing Yang Hong etc, are the most largest restaurants, They serve food from all parts of China, like Sichuan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong food, and also home cooking, Muslim tasty cuisine and tradition snack.

Guijie's speciality dish the 'spicy little thing' is the first temptation pop into people's mind when they think of Ghost Street. "Spicy little things", short for "spicy peppery little lobster", is a dish of lobsters fried with a lot peppers and chilies. The lobster is called "bug-thorn cricket" or "pincers shrimp", is not favored by southerners, but the indigenous Beijingness. Spicy crabs, scorpions and stewed red mutton are all specialties first invented and popularized in Guijie Street.
