The filling may be divided into various types, sweet or savory; vegetarian or filled with meat and vegetables, all depending on which taste you prefer, but generally consists of minced meat.

Chinese dumpling is one of the most important foods in Chinese New Year. Since the shape of Chinese dumplings is similar to ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots, they stand for wealth. Traditionally, the members of a family get together to make dumplings during the New Year's Eve. They may hide a coin in one of the dumplings. The person who find the coin will likely have a good fortune in the coming New Year. Chinese dumpling is also popular in other Chinese holidays or festivals, so it is part of the Chinese culture and tradition.

It is a team work to making dumpling. Usually all family members will join the work, that's also reckoned to be the one of the hilarious part of any festivals. They would get together to make dumplings and talk and have fun. Many Chinese people start to learn to make dumplings when they are kids.
